Green GSM Taxi Service Now Available in Los Angeles

October 14, 2026 · CleanTechnica · Score: 9

A Vietnamese transportation company, Green SM, has launched an all-electric taxi service in Los Angeles, its first stop in the United States. The fleet runs entirely on VinFast VF 8 electric crossovers, and riders can book through a mobile app, call dispatch, or hail a car on the street. The company is offering introductory discounts and subscription options for regular riders.

This isn't a home upgrade program, but it fits into a broader push toward electric transportation that touches the same grid and charging infrastructure homeowners are increasingly plugging into. Green SM has already built similar electric taxi fleets in Vietnam, Laos, Indonesia, the Philippines, India, Kazakhstan, Denmark, and the Netherlands, and says its vehicles worldwide have completed about 850 million rides while avoiding roughly 800,000 tons of carbon dioxide emissions. The Los Angeles launch follows a separate announcement that VinFast plans to bring electric buses to U.S. public transit systems through a partnership with NexMove, with Los Angeles likely serving as a proving ground before the company expands to other American cities.

For now, this is simply a new electric ride option showing up on L.A. streets, not a program tied to home energy rebates or upgrades. If you live in the area, you may start seeing these taxis around, but there's nothing here that affects weatherization, heat pump, or rebate decisions for your own house.
