GM just added ChargePoint to its EV apps

July 21, 2026 · Electrek · Score: 23

This is EV charging news, not a home energy upgrade story, but here's what changed: GM has added ChargePoint to its Energy Pass app, which works inside the myChevrolet, myGMC, and myCadillac apps. If you drive a GM electric vehicle, this means you can now find, start, and pay for charging at ChargePoint stations directly through your car's own app, instead of setting up a separate ChargePoint account.

ChargePoint runs close to 80,000 public charging spots in the US, including about 75,000 slower Level 2 chargers (the kind that take a few hours) and more than 4,400 DC fast chargers (which charge much quicker, often used on road trips). Many of these stations also support "Plug & Charge," meaning you just plug in and the car and charger handle payment automatically, no app tapping required.

GM says that as it adds more charging networks to Energy Pass, GM drivers should eventually be able to reach around 70 percent of all DC fast chargers in the country and about 60 percent of public Level 2 chargers, all from one app. For homeowners who drive a GM EV and charge at home most of the time, this mainly matters for trips or backup charging away from the house, since it means fewer apps to juggle and easier access to public chargers when you need them.
