GM halts shipments and recalls nearly 15,000 Cadillac electric SUVs

July 6, 2026 · Electrek · Score: 19

GM has recalled nearly 15,000 Cadillac Vistiq electric SUVs because the power third-row seats can malfunction and trap a passenger, especially a child. The recall covers 13,629 vehicles from the 2026 model year and 911 from 2027, and GM estimates all of them have the defect. The company started looking into the problem in March after Hyundai recalled its 2026 Palisade SUV over a similar seat issue, which was linked to a two-year-old's death in Ohio. GM says it knows of six other incidents tied to the Vistiq's seats, but no injuries so far.

GM stopped shipping the 2027 Vistiq on June 8, 2026. Since the 2026 models were already built, those vehicles will need the fix once they reach owners. At the dealer, the folding third-row seat feature will be disabled and replaced at no cost until new parts are ready, then reinstalled and updated for free.

If you own a Cadillac Vistiq, notification letters are expected to go out by mail on August 3, 2026. You don't need to wait for that letter to act — you can contact Cadillac customer service at 1-800-333-4223, or reach the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration hotline at 1-888-327-4236, or check NHTSA.gov for details. The recall number is N262555780, and the NHTSA campaign number is 26V394.
