Geely Unveils New EV Powertrain That Is 93.8% Efficient

July 19, 2026 · CleanTechnica · Score: 2

Chinese automaker Geely has unveiled a new electric vehicle powertrain that packs 16 components into one compact drive unit, reaching 93.8 percent efficiency by one measurement standard. The system, called the 16-in-1 Intelligent E-Drive, weighs about 165 pounds and simplifies how power moves from battery to wheels, cutting energy losses along the way. In a test drive around China's Qinghai Lake, a Geely TT sedan equipped with the system used just 8.20 kWh per 100 km, setting a Guinness World Record for lowest energy use on that route by a production electric sedan.

The same drivetrain also supports high performance, with a dual-motor setup producing 570 horsepower and a 0-to-100-km/h time of 3.8 seconds. Cooling and lubrication upgrades are meant to keep the system stable under heavy use, with a target lifespan of 5 million kilometers.

This is not a product homeowners can buy or install, and there is no word of it coming to the US market. Geely is rolling it out first in China and expanding sales in Europe, including a new lineup launching in Germany. The news matters mainly as a sign of where EV technology is headed: automakers are shrinking and combining drive components to squeeze more range out of each battery charge, which over time tends to filter down into more efficient, cheaper-to-run electric cars for everyday buyers, even if this particular model stays overseas.
