Fortress Power partners with Flip Energy for VPP programs

July 21, 2026 · Solar Power World · Score: 32

Battery maker Fortress Power is teaming up with Flip Energy to connect more home battery systems to virtual power plant (VPP) programs. A VPP is a setup where utilities pay owners of home batteries or other energy storage to share some of that stored power with the grid during times of high demand, in exchange for money or bill credits. Flip Energy runs the software platform that lets battery makers, utilities, and other partners coordinate these programs.

Fortress Power batteries already take part in 12 VPP programs around the country, including LUMA's Clean Energy Program in Puerto Rico and Rocky Mountain Power's Wattsmart Battery Program. The new partnership with Flip Energy is meant to strengthen those existing connections and make it easier to add more programs in the future, giving battery owners more ways to earn money from systems they've already installed.

For a homeowner, this mainly matters if you already own, or are considering, a Fortress Power battery. It signals that more utility programs may become available to plug into over time, potentially adding another source of savings or payments beyond what the battery already provides for backup power or reducing your own electric bill. No specific new program, payment amount, or enrollment deadline was announced here, so if you have a Fortress Power system, it's worth keeping an eye out for updates on which VPP programs are available in your state.
