Ford will build the new Bronco and an electric crossover with China’s help

July 23, 2026 · Electrek · Score: 5

This is car industry news, not a home energy story, so it doesn't affect your house directly. But here's what happened: Ford and China's automaker Geely announced a joint venture to build vehicles together in Valencia, Spain, aimed at the European market. Ford will own 66% of the new venture, Geely 34%.

The plan calls for a new version of the Bronco and an electric crossover under the Ford brand, plus two electric SUVs from Geely, all built at the same underused Ford factory. Ford says sharing production this way should lower costs per vehicle, helping it compete with cheaper Chinese-made EVs already selling in Europe. The Bronco is expected to come with a plug-in hybrid option (a vehicle that runs on both gas and a rechargeable battery), and the crossover will also offer electric and plug-in hybrid versions. Production is set to start in the first half of 2027, with vehicles rolling off the line in 2028.

None of this involves US home energy programs, rebates, or equipment for your house. It's a manufacturing and trade story about how Ford is responding to competition from Chinese EV makers in Europe by teaming up with one of them. If you're watching the EV market because you're considering an electric vehicle alongside home upgrades like a heat pump or EV charger, this mainly signals more competition and new models heading to Europe, not the US.
