Ford is building an electric crossover with China’s help, plus a new Bronco is coming

July 23, 2026 · Electrek · Score: 0

Ford and China's automaker Geely are teaming up to build electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles at Ford's plant in Valencia, Spain. The joint venture could eventually produce around 500,000 vehicles a year, with Ford owning 66% and Geely 34%. The plan still needs regulatory approval, but if it goes through, production would start in early 2027, with the first vehicles arriving in 2028.

The lineup will include a new Ford electric crossover, two Geely electric SUVs, and a new compact Bronco model built for off-road use, which Ford describes as "tough" and "adventure-ready." The Bronco is expected to come in different power options, including a plug-in hybrid version. In the meantime, Ford's Kuga plug-in hybrid will keep rolling off the same production line.

This is mainly a business and manufacturing story rather than one with immediate effects for homeowners. It does not involve home energy equipment, rebates, or upgrades. If you're interested in electric vehicles generally, the news signals that more affordable EVs and hybrids, built with shared technology between a US automaker and a Chinese one, are likely headed to the European market over the next couple of years. There is no word yet on US availability, pricing, or how this might affect vehicles sold domestically.
