Flex to purchase inverter brand EPC Power for $4.4 billion

September 4, 2026 · Solar Power World · Score: 28

Manufacturer Flex is buying EPC Power, a maker of inverters (the devices that convert power from solar panels or batteries into electricity usable on the grid), in a deal worth $4.4 billion. The purchase is expected to close in late 2026, and EPC Power will then join a Flex division focused on data centers and power infrastructure. Flex plans to spin that division off into its own publicly traded company in early 2027.

This is mainly a business-and-industry story rather than something that changes what's on the market for homeowners right now. EPC Power builds large-scale inverters, including systems for utility projects and data centers, not the residential rooftop equipment most homeowners deal with. Flex itself is a familiar name behind the scenes in home solar, though: it manufactures microinverters for Enphase, a common brand in home solar installations, and it used to own Nextracker (now called Nextpower), a solar hardware company, before splitting off in 2024.

For now, the deal signals that inverter makers are chasing growth from AI and data center demand for power, which is reshaping who owns and invests in these companies. It doesn't come with any new rebate, price, or product change for a homeowner's own solar or battery system. If you already have or are considering equipment from Enphase or other Flex-connected brands, there's nothing to act on here — just a shift in corporate ownership happening further up the supply chain.
