First look at Tesla Cybercab’s steering: a Cybertruck wheel bolted on
This is Tesla and robotaxi news, not a home energy story, so there is nothing here that affects a homeowner's own house or upgrade plans.
For context: a pre-production Tesla Cybercab, spotted parked in Berkeley, California, showed the clearest look yet at how Tesla is testing a car it designed to have no steering wheel at all. Photos shared with Electrek showed a Cybertruck steering wheel bolted onto an exposed steering column inside the two-seat robotaxi, mounted on what looks like a temporary test rig.
Tesla unveiled the Cybercab in 2024 as a purpose-built robotaxi with no steering wheel, pedals, or mirrors, priced under $30,000, and has been producing finished units at its Texas factory. But cars actually driving on public roads still need a human at the wheel for safety and testing rules, so Tesla adds borrowed hardware from other models for now.
None of this involves home energy upgrades, rebates, or costs relevant to a house. It is simply an update on how Tesla is testing its self-driving robotaxi before the software and regulations exist to let it run without a person on board.
