Expanded and Updated Electrify the South Electric Transportation Toolkit Now Available
A group called SACE has updated its Electrify the South Electric Transportation Toolkit, a free guide aimed mainly at local governments in the Southeast that want to add electric vehicles and charging stations. The 2026 version is a downloadable PDF organized into short factsheets, with new tools added this year.
Most of the additions are for city and county staff, but a few pieces touch homeowners indirectly. One new resource is a spreadsheet cataloging electric vehicle programs from utility companies, organized by state, including some rebates for buying a residential electric vehicle and programs that help cover the cost of installing home charging equipment. Another new resource, from the FORTH Charge at Home Program, focuses on getting EV chargers installed at apartment and condo buildings, with guides for both residents and property developers, plus free consultations for developers of multifamily housing.
The rest of the update is aimed at local officials: a new online tool that helps city fleet managers build a plan for switching municipal vehicles to electric, guidance on permitting fast-chargers, advice on managing take-home electric fleet vehicles, and a tool for coordinating charger installations with utility companies. If you live in an apartment or condo and want a charger, or if you're curious whether your utility offers a rebate for an electric vehicle or home charging setup, it may be worth checking what your state's utilities currently offer, since these programs vary widely by location.
