Exclusive: Segway teases more electric bikes, including a street-legal next-gen Xyber

July 22, 2026 · Electrek · Score: 0

This is outside the usual scope of home energy upgrades, but here's the news: Segway plans to release two new electric bikes before the end of 2026, both expected to arrive sometime in the third quarter. The company shared the news directly with a reporter, though most details are still under wraps.

The bigger news is a redesign of Segway's Xyber model. The current Xyber sits somewhere between an e-bike and a lightweight electric motorcycle, but the next version is being built to be street-legal, with a selectable Class 1, 2, or 3 mode depending on what's allowed where you live. E-bike classes typically refer to speed and whether the motor assists only while pedaling or also works with a throttle. Making the Xyber switchable between these classes would let more riders use it under standard e-bike rules rather than motorcycle rules. Segway says the new version keeps the original's look and adds more everyday features, connected tech, and rider-adjustable settings, but exact specs, price, and release date are not yet available.

Segway also confirmed a second, entirely new e-bike is coming, without offering any details on what it will look like or do. This follows a busy stretch for the company, which has already launched a commuter e-bike (Myon), a cargo bike (MUXI), and an electric dirt bike this year. None of this affects home energy programs or rebates, but if you're shopping for a bike, it's worth knowing Segway's lineup is about to grow again.
