EvenAir 2.0 Balances Temperatures Throughout the Home
Field Controls has released an update to its EvenAir system, a device meant to even out temperature swings between rooms without installing a full zoning system or a second HVAC unit. Called EvenAir 2.0, it works alongside your home's existing thermostat and a single heating and cooling system, using sensors and adjustable dampers (panels inside the ductwork that control airflow) to manage up to three areas of the house separately.
The updated version checks temperatures every two minutes while heating, cooling, or running the fan, comparing readings from different parts of the house against the main thermostat and adjusting the dampers accordingly. The idea is to stop upstairs rooms from overheating in summer or downstairs rooms from staying cold in winter, and to smooth out rooms that get more sun or outside exposure than the rest of the house.
The company markets EvenAir 2.0 as a lower-cost alternative to installing separate zoning controls or a second HVAC system, aimed particularly at split-level and two-story homes, or any house with a room or two that never seems to match the rest. If you've dealt with an upstairs that runs hot in summer or a downstairs that stays chilly in winter, this is the kind of add-on system worth asking about the next time you're looking at HVAC upgrades, since it works with equipment you likely already have rather than requiring a full system replacement.
