Energy storage brand merger: Stryten to acquire C&D Trojan

July 13, 2026 · Solar Power World · Score: 38

Two battery manufacturers are joining forces. Stryten Energy is acquiring C&D Trojan, a company formed in 2018 when C&D Technologies bought the Trojan Battery brand, which dates back to 1925 as a maker of deep-cycle batteries. The deal is expected to close in the third quarter of 2026, with Stryten's current CEO Mike Judd leading the combined company.

After the merger, Stryten will run 15 battery manufacturing and component plants across the United States with about 3,700 employees. The combined company plans to offer both lead-based and lithium-based storage technologies across a range of markets. Stryten also plans to expand production of AGM (absorbent glass mat) batteries, a type of advanced lead battery used in hybrid and start-stop vehicles, as well as in backup power for data centers and telecom equipment.

For homeowners, this is mainly a business and manufacturing update rather than something that changes what's available on the market right away. It signals that more battery production is consolidating under fewer, larger domestic manufacturers, which could affect the brands and supply chains behind home batteries and backup power systems over time. There's no new product, price, or rebate tied to this announcement, so it doesn't call for any changes to plans you might have for solar batteries or home backup power right now.
