Elon Musk Is Still Saying Crazy Things About “Era of Abundance,” Among Other Things
This is opinion commentary about Elon Musk's comments in a recent interview with The Economist, not energy-efficiency or rebate news, so it does not affect any home upgrade decisions. Musk said that "money won't matter" by 2036, arguing that robots and automation will make goods and services so cheap that pay and pricing become irrelevant. When asked how people would get by as jobs disappear, he suggested the U.S. Treasury should simply issue checks to people, without addressing how that would be funded or whether it would cause inflation.
The piece criticizes Musk for this reasoning, pointing out that hunger and poverty persist today despite there being enough resources to address them, and that Musk's own actions — including cuts to U.S. foreign aid programs — have arguably worsened hardship rather than reduced it. The author also ties this back to Tesla, arguing that Musk has been diverting company resources toward humanoid robots (Tesla's Optimus project) instead of developing new electric vehicle models, which the writer says has weakened Tesla's position as a leading EV maker.
There is nothing here about rebates, tax credits, heat pumps, weatherization, or any program relevant to home energy upgrades. It is purely commentary on Musk's public statements and their implications for Tesla's business direction, not a policy or funding development homeowners need to track.
