Elon Musk A No-Show At Tesla Semi Event Because …
This is a corporate news item rather than a home energy story, but here's what happened. Tesla opened its new Nevada factory for the Semi, its electric truck for hauling freight, and the truck appears to be selling well. But CEO Elon Musk skipped the in-person launch, appearing only in a pre-recorded video, and news outlets have been speculating why.
The timing lines up with several distractions. Musk attended a White House dinner for Chinese President Xi Jinping last week, but reportedly as a SpaceX representative rather than as Tesla's CEO. Around the same time, a California civil rights lawsuit accusing Tesla of race discrimination at its Fremont factory went to trial, joining other similar lawsuits Tesla faces from workers and the federal Equal Employment Opportunity Commission. Musk has also been dealing with publicity around a new documentary about him, after reports that major platforms including YouTube, TikTok, Instagram, and his own X briefly refused to run ads for the film (most have since restored them). Separately, Musk's political action committee has been spending heavily on this year's midterm elections, including millions in Senate races in Ohio, Michigan, Iowa, Maine, and Texas.
None of this changes anything for the Tesla Semi itself or for homeowners considering electric vehicles or chargers. It is simply a look at why Musk was absent from his own company's factory opening.
