E-quipment highlight: SANY SKT145Ei cabless, autonomous haul truck [video]

July 28, 2026 · Electrek · Score: 0

This one's outside the home-energy world, but worth a quick note if you follow electric vehicle technology: Chinese equipment maker SANY has unveiled the SKT145Ei, an electric mining haul truck with no driver's cab at all. Instead of adapting an existing truck design, the company built the vehicle from scratch around sensors and computers, using radar, LiDAR (a laser-based distance sensor), and cameras to let it drive itself on mine sites.

The truck runs on an 801 kWh battery pack, far larger than anything used in a home, and includes triple-backup braking systems meant to handle rain, fog, and dust at mining sites. SANY says skipping the driver's cab let it shrink the truck's overall length, making it easier to move through tight roads at mining operations, and simplified maintenance since the sensors and controls were built in from the start rather than bolted onto an existing design.

This is industrial equipment for mining operations, not something relevant to home energy upgrades or rebates. It shows how battery and self-driving technology are advancing in heavy machinery, which can be a sign of where battery costs and capabilities are headed generally, but it has no direct bearing on home heating, cooling, or weatherization choices. If you're tracking home energy upgrades, this is simply background noise from a different corner of the electric-vehicle world.
