E-quipment highlight: 16-tonne Hyundai 160B-X battery-electric forklift
Hyundai has rounded out its lineup of battery-electric forklifts, now covering machines from 4 tonnes up to 18 tonnes. The new additions include the 100B-X, 120B-X, and 130B-X models, along with the heavy-duty 160B-X and 180B-X, which are shipping to customers now. These bigger electric forklifts are aimed at replacing diesel equipment in tough jobs like ports, shipbuilding, construction material handling, and outdoor manufacturing and logistics work.
The 160B-X runs on a 618-volt lithium-ion battery system and can operate continuously for more than 7 hours on a single charge, with what Hyundai calls rapid charging capability. It also comes loaded with safety features meant for busy worksites: camera-based pedestrian detection, sensors that adjust for delicate loads, warning lights that project onto the floor to flag the vehicle's path, automatic parking, and a system that shuts down movement if the operator leaves the seat.
This is industrial equipment news rather than something that affects home energy upgrades directly. But it's a sign of how far battery power has spread into heavy-duty jobs once considered strictly diesel territory, including outdoor work in rain, cold, and dust, conditions where electric equipment has reportedly held up well against diesel. For homeowners, there's no direct action here, just a glimpse of electrification pushing into bigger and tougher machines.
