Connecticut Green Bank Launches 17th Green Liberty Notes Offering
The Connecticut Green Bank has opened its 17th round of Green Liberty Notes, a way for regular people to invest small amounts of money in the state's clean energy work. The notes have a one-year term, a minimum investment of $100, and are sold through the online platform Honeycomb Credit at greenlibertynotes.com. Money raised through this offering supports Eversource's Small Business Energy Advantage program, which gives small businesses in Connecticut interest-free loans and other help to make energy efficiency upgrades and cut their energy costs.
The previous round, the 16th offering, set a record: it hit its $500,000 cap with $606,649 in investor commitments from 129 people, the highest turnout in the program's history. It was also the 14th offering in a row to meet or beat its goal. Overall, the program has raised more than $4 million, with over 60% of original investments at $1,000 or less. Investors have come from 43 states, and more than half are Connecticut residents.
This isn't a rebate or upgrade program for your own house — it's an investment product that funds energy efficiency work at small businesses. If you're looking for a low-dollar way to put money into local clean energy projects and earn a return, this is one option to look into. The Green Bank also said it plans to expand the model soon so communities can invest in specific local projects, with those raises expected to launch in the coming months.
