China About To Get 156 New Electric Vehicle Models!
China's electric vehicle market is about to get a flood of new choices. Automakers there plan to launch 156 new EV models in the second half of 2026, far more than the total number of EV models sold in the entire US market. The pace reflects how competitive and fast-moving China's EV industry has become, with brands constantly rolling out new products and features to keep up.
That competition has a rough side, too. Chinese automakers have been locked in a price war for the past couple of years. New rules now require them to pay suppliers within a set time and bar selling vehicles below cost, which has eased things somewhat, but the market remains cutthroat. BYD, one of the biggest names, has had softer sales lately but is preparing new models built around improved charging and battery technology. Meanwhile, legacy Western automakers are struggling to keep up in China, a big part of why Volkswagen Group is closing four factories and cutting 100,000 jobs.
None of this changes anything about upgrading your own home, but it is a sign of how quickly EV technology and options are expanding worldwide. Some industry watchers expect a wave of bankruptcies among smaller Chinese EV makers later this year as the market sorts out winners and losers. Whether all 156 models actually make it to showrooms remains to be seen.
