Chery Previews New EV and Hybrid Lineup at GIIAS 2026 ahead of Philippine Debuts
This is car news out of Southeast Asia, not a U.S. home upgrade story, but it's worth knowing if you're weighing an electric vehicle to pair with home charging or solar. Chery, a Chinese automaker, showed off new electric and hybrid models at an auto show in Indonesia, with plans to bring them to the Philippines. The Chery Q is a small, low-cost electric hatchback with a 42.7-kilowatt-hour battery, a claimed range of about 400 kilometers, and fast-charging that takes the battery from 30 to 80 percent in 16.5 minutes. It also has vehicle-to-load capability, meaning it can supply power to outside equipment, similar to how some EVs can run tools or appliances during an outage. In Indonesia it sold for roughly $13,300 to $14,400; in the Philippines it's listed at about 1.12 million pesos.
Chery also unveiled the Tiggo V, a larger vehicle that can be configured as an SUV, a seven-seat people mover, or a cargo hauler, available with either a gas engine or Chery's hybrid system, with a claimed range up to 1,030 kilometers.
None of this is available in the U.S., and there's no mention of American pricing, incentives, or release plans. The relevance for a homeowner here is limited to the broader trend: automakers are pushing to make electric vehicles cheaper and faster-charging, which matters if you're thinking about installing a home EV charger or matching an EV to solar panels down the road.
