BYD’s top-selling 1,100+ hp luxury GT is about to get a bit cheaper

September 8, 2026 · Electrek · Score: 0

This is a car story, not a home energy upgrade story, so it doesn't have much bearing on plans for your house. Still, here's what's happening: Chinese automaker BYD, through its luxury brand Denza, is launching a new version of its Z9 GT electric car on September 9. This model has been China's best-selling luxury GT for several months, and the new version is an all-electric, tri-motor variant that's lighter than current versions.

The new model is expected to slot in price-wise between two existing versions, likely starting around $50,000, based on the gap between the current cheapest model ($44,500) and the current top-tier model ($55,000). The car has serious performance specs: the tri-motor setup can produce over 1,100 horsepower, and the vehicle can charge from 10% to 70% battery in as little as 5 minutes. Its range on a Chinese testing standard reaches over 640 miles.

BYD already sells the Z9 GT in Europe, with German prices starting around $134,500, and plans to expand sales to 30 countries by the end of 2026. Whether this new, cheaper tri-motor version will also be sold outside China, including in Europe, has not been confirmed yet. More details are expected once the car officially goes on sale in China this week.
