BYD’s new luxury electric SUV has a range of over 1,000 km and huge screens
This news is about a car, not a home upgrade, but it may interest homeowners weighing an electric vehicle alongside other energy plans. BYD, a Chinese automaker, is launching an electric version of its Denza N8 luxury SUV in China next month. The company says it will travel 1,003 km (623 miles) on a full charge, using a Chinese testing standard called CLTC that tends to report higher numbers than the U.S. EPA standard used for American range ratings. Commenters on the original story estimate the real-world EPA figure would land closer to 430-450 miles.
The SUV uses BYD's newest LFP battery pack, a 130-kilowatt-hour unit, and supports "flash charging," which BYD says can take the battery from 10 to 70 percent in five minutes, or up to 97 percent in nine minutes — figures reached only on BYD's own high-power chargers. The car comes in rear-wheel-drive or a three-motor all-wheel-drive version with over 1,190 horsepower combined. Inside, it has a 30-inch dashboard screen and a 43-inch display below the windshield, along with ambient lighting and premium seating.
This model is not currently sold in the United States, so it has no direct bearing on EV incentives, home charging setups, or rebates available to American homeowners. It is worth noting mainly as a sign of how fast battery and charging technology is advancing elsewhere, which could eventually shape what charging equipment or EV options show up here.
