BYD reveals tech-savvy 5-seat SUV interior with two massive 30-inch+ screens
This is car news, not home energy news, so it won't affect your household upgrade plans. BYD, the Chinese automaker, showed off the interior of its new third-generation Tang, a five-seat electric SUV expected to go on sale later this year. The cabin has two huge screens, a 35.4-inch display and a separate 30-inch screen stretching across most of the dashboard, along with reclining "zero-gravity" seats in the second row and over 1,000 mm of second-row legroom.
The SUV uses BYD's newest battery technology, called Blade Batteries 2.0, paired with fast-charging hardware that can take the battery from 10% to 70% in as little as 5 minutes. Depending on which of two battery sizes a buyer chooses, the SUV is rated for 453 to 528 miles of range under the Chinese testing standard, which tends to run higher than U.S. range estimates. It also comes with adjustable air suspension and a driver-assistance system.
BYD hasn't announced pricing for this smaller Tang, but a related full-size SUV from the brand starts around $35,500, suggesting this new model could be priced lower. For now, this vehicle is tied to the Chinese market, with no indication of U.S. availability. If you're weighing an electric vehicle purchase alongside home charging or solar plans, this is worth knowing about as a sign of where EV technology is heading, but it's not something that changes any decisions for a U.S. homeowner today.
