BYD reveals images of the new Qin Max EV ahead of its launch next month
This one is about a new car, not a home upgrade, but it's worth a quick note if you're weighing electric vehicles alongside home projects like EV chargers or solar. Chinese automaker BYD is preparing to launch a new electric sedan called the Qin Max, a bigger version of its existing Qin L model, with dealership arrivals starting ahead of a planned launch next month.
The car will come in both fully electric and plug-in-hybrid versions. The electric version uses BYD's Blade Battery technology paired with a fast-charging system the company says can take a battery from 10% to 97% in nine minutes, with a 10% to 70% charge taking about five minutes. Depending on battery size, BYD says the car should get roughly 330 to 391 miles of range on the Chinese testing standard. Pricing and U.S. availability have not been announced, and BYD vehicles are not currently sold in the American market.
For homeowners, the practical takeaway is limited for now, since this is a Chinese-market release. But charging speed claims like these matter if you're ever comparing home charging setups: a car that can add significant range in minutes on a fast public charger changes how much you'd rely on overnight charging at home. If BYD or similar fast-charging EVs eventually reach U.S. buyers, it could influence decisions about home charger installation and electrical upgrades down the road.
