BYD Reaches 100,000 EVs Produced in Brazil

July 28, 2026 · CleanTechnica · Score: 0

Chinese automaker BYD has hit a production milestone at its factory in Camaçari, Brazil, building more than 100,000 electric vehicles just nine months after operations began. The plant now employs 5,500 people, most of them from the local area. The 100,000th vehicle off the line was a BYD Dolphin Mini, which has been Brazil's top-selling battery electric vehicle in the retail market for five straight months. The factory also builds the BYD King and BYD Song Pro. BYD says more than 300,000 Brazilians have bought its vehicles overall.

This is a story about global EV manufacturing growth rather than anything that changes rebates, incentives, or upgrade options for a homeowner in the US. It does not affect any weatherization program, tax credit, or heat pump rebate you might be looking into. BYD does not currently sell vehicles in the US market, so this expansion in Brazil has no direct bearing on what's available to American buyers right now.

The broader relevance, if any, is that BYD's rapid growth outside China — now spanning Asia, Europe, Africa, and Latin America — shows how competitive the global EV market has become and could eventually shape what technology and pricing pressures show up in vehicles sold elsewhere. But for now, if you're weighing an EV purchase or a home charging setup, this news doesn't change your options or timeline. It's simply a sign of how fast one manufacturer is scaling up production abroad.
