BPA Awarded Funding for Statewide Needs Assessment and More in Georgia
Georgia is putting money into training more people to do energy efficiency work. The Building Performance Association and the Home Performance Coalition have received $150,000 from the Georgia Environmental Finance Authority, the state agency that handles energy efficiency programs and related infrastructure loans. The funding runs from July 2026 to June 2027 and will pay for a statewide study of the energy workforce, along with outreach, partnerships, and a new certification and scholarship program.
The goal is to figure out where Georgia has too few trained workers for jobs like efficiency upgrades, retrofits, and grid improvements, and what is stopping people from entering or moving up in the field, particularly in rural, low-income, and underserved communities. The certification and scholarship piece will be built with the state's public colleges and technical schools, and will include training materials in multiple languages.
This is not a rebate or incentive program you can apply to directly. It is workforce planning meant to grow the pool of trained workers available for energy efficiency and clean energy jobs in Georgia over time. For a homeowner, the practical effect, if any, would show up later: more trained workers potentially means more contractors available to do efficiency upgrades or retrofit work in the state. The organizations are also looking for contractors, trainers, nonprofits, or workforce groups in Georgia interested in partnering on the project.
