Bouge RV’s Battery-Powered Portable Fridges Make Going Off Grid Easy (CleanTechnica Tested)

August 19, 2026 · CleanTechnica · Score: 4

A reviewer tested Bouge RV's Rocky 41 quart portable refrigerator, a battery-powered cooler built for camping, overlanding, or off-grid use around the house and yard. The fridge has a dual-zone design, so one side can run as a fridge and the other as a freezer, and it comes in a stainless steel body meant to hold up to rough handling. At 47 pounds, it's on the heavy side, though the battery can be removed to lighten it.

The standout feature is an optional, removable 240 watt-hour battery that lets the fridge run untethered from an outlet. Bouge RV says a full charge keeps it going up to 20 hours, and testing in mild conditions backed that up. In extreme heat, 110°F inside a truck bed, the battery lasted about 12 hours instead, since the fridge had to work harder to hold its temperature. The battery can also be charged directly from a portable solar panel using an MC4 connector, which the reviewer tested with Bouge RV's 100 watt flexible panel. Paired together, the panel offset enough of the fridge's power draw to keep it running through a sunny day.

For homeowners, this isn't a whole-house energy upgrade, it's a portable, solar-chargeable fridge for trips, tailgates, or backup cold storage during an outage. There's no price, rebate, or availability date mentioned, just a hands-on look at how the fridge and matching solar panel perform together.
