BMW’s new iX3 EV is racking up orders, even in China, despite selling only an image

August 27, 2026 · Electrek · Score: 0

This is a car-industry story, not a home energy upgrade item, so there's little direct bearing on a homeowner's own house. Still, here's what happened: BMW's new electric iX3 SUV is drawing strong early orders worldwide, with global totals nearing 100,000. Demand has been especially heavy in China, where dealers report tens of thousands of pre-orders in less than a week, even though buyers are ordering from images alone — no display cars are available yet. BMW expects show models at dealerships by late October, with first deliveries in November and full-scale deliveries not until 2027.

The iX3 is the first model from BMW's new "Neue Klasse" electric platform, with a China-market range rated up to 517 miles and a U.S. version rated at up to 434 miles, starting around $61,500. In real-world testing, a prototype drove about 500 miles on a single charge through hills, snow, and rain.

For a homeowner, this is mainly a car-market development rather than something tied to home energy programs or rebates. If you're considering an EV alongside home upgrades like a heat pump or added insulation, the news simply signals that more long-range electric SUV options are coming to market over the next year, which could matter later if you're planning a home charging setup, but there's no rebate, incentive, or program change here that affects your house directly.
