BMW’s new iX1 looks like a baby iX3 [Images]

October 13, 2026 · Electrek · Score: 1

This is a car industry story, not a home energy upgrade. It covers BMW's redesign of its small electric SUV, the iX1, which was spotted testing with styling that borrows from the larger iX3. The car will move to BMW's new "Neue Klasse" electric platform, which the automaker says brings better driving range, efficiency, and faster charging compared to the current model. The interior is also getting an overhaul with bigger screens and updated technology.

None of this applies to US homeowners directly, since BMW has no plans to sell the iX1 here. The company's electric models already on sale in the US under this new platform are the iX3 and i3, both starting at $61,500. BMW has also said it plans to launch a smaller, more affordable electric model, likely called the i1, in 2028.

For anyone tracking electric vehicles as part of a broader home energy plan, such as pairing an EV with home charging or solar, this is simply a preview of upcoming BMW models overseas rather than something that changes what is available to buy or charge at home right now. There is no new rebate, charging incentive, or program mentioned here. If you are weighing an EV purchase alongside home charging equipment, the relevant facts for now are the existing iX3 and i3 prices, not the iX1, which will not be sold in the US.
