BMW i3 Touring captured on video for the first time [Video]
This is car news, not a home energy story, but here's the gist: BMW's electric i3 sedan is already on sale in Europe, and a wagon version, called the i3 Touring, has now been spotted on video for the first time, still wrapped in camouflage. It has a longer rear end and a sloped roofline, similar in shape to the Kia EV4 hatchback.
The i3 sedan runs on BMW's new "Neue Klasse" electric platform with a 108.7 kWh battery, giving it a European range rating of up to 566 miles, or about 440 miles under the US rating system. It can fast-charge at up to 400 kW and regain roughly 250 miles of range in about 10 minutes. The Touring version is expected to have similar looks up front but likely less range than the sedan, plus a higher price, since BMW's wagon versions typically cost more than their sedan counterparts.
None of this affects home electricity use or rebates directly, but it's worth knowing if you're weighing an electric vehicle purchase alongside home upgrades like a heat pump or added insulation, since EV charging can add meaningfully to household electricity demand. BMW has started building the i3 in Munich, with US deliveries of the 2027 model expected this fall. More details on the Touring wagon are expected soon.
