A Volkswagen Bestseller Goes Electric: World Premiere of the New ID. Tiguan
This is car news, not a home-upgrade story, but it may interest readers thinking about an electric vehicle alongside household energy plans. Volkswagen has unveiled the new ID. Tiguan, an electric SUV that replaces the ID.4 and ID.5 models, with sales starting in early 2027. It will be sold alongside the current gas, diesel, and hybrid Tiguan.
The electric SUV comes in three versions: a rear-wheel-drive model with a 58 kWh battery, a rear-wheel-drive model with a 77 kWh battery, and an all-wheel-drive version also with the 77 kWh battery. Depending on the setup, VW says range reaches up to 600 kilometers (about 373 miles) on the European WLTP test cycle, which tends to run higher than US range estimates. Towing capacity goes up to 2,000 kg (about 4,400 pounds) with the larger battery. The car also includes a frunk, a small front trunk, for extra storage, plus features like heated and ventilated seats, a panoramic sunroof, and a plug that lets the car power outside devices such as e-bikes or grills.
For homeowners, the relevant detail is the vehicle-to-load feature: the car's charging port can run small appliances or tools directly, similar to a portable power station. There's no word yet on US pricing or availability — pre-orders open October 13 in Germany and other European countries, starting at 42,695 euros. If you're weighing an EV purchase alongside home charging or solar plans, it's worth watching for confirmation of a US launch and pricing.
