A New Leadership Program for HVACR Business Owners

July 24, 2026 · ACHR News · Score: 59

This news is about the heating and cooling trade itself, not a product or rebate for homeowners. The industry group ACCA (Air Conditioning Contractors of America) has started a new year-long training program called Legacy Builders, aimed at owners of HVAC companies. The goal is to help contractors who run their own businesses shift from working "in" the business day to day toward running it as a CEO, with an eye toward eventually growing the company or selling it. Enrollment is open through August 15, and the program starts this fall.

The program is open only to members of ACCA and a related trade group, PHCC (Plumbing-Heating-Cooling Contractors—National Association), and it's built for companies with annual revenue roughly between $1 million and $15 million. It includes in-person workshops, monthly online sessions, mentoring from other owners, and a peer group, ending with each owner having a leadership transition plan and a plan for eventually stepping back from or selling the business.

For a homeowner, this doesn't change any rebate, tax credit, or equipment option. It's a sign that the contractors who install and service furnaces, air conditioners, and heat pumps are getting more formal business training, which over time could mean more professionally run local HVAC companies. But there's no direct action or benefit here for your own house.
