GE Appliances has launched a new commercial VRF (variable refrigerant flow) heat pump lineup called the GE R-32 VRF platform. VRF systems use a single outdoor unit to send refrigerant to multiple indoor units, letting different rooms or zones heat and cool independently. This new line is aimed at light commercial buildings, not homes, and is meant to help engineers and contractors design and install these systems more easily on office, retail, and similar projects.
The lineup includes two main systems. The MRV-7 offers single units ranging from 6 to 20 tons of capacity, with the option to combine units for up to 36 tons total. The MRV-7S is a smaller-capacity option, covering 3 to 5 tons, including single-phase power setups suited to smaller commercial buildings. Both use R-32 refrigerant and come with features like corrosion protection, quiet operation, wide operating temperature ranges, and compatibility with various indoor unit types such as ducted units, wall-mounted units, and cassettes.
For homeowners, this news doesn't apply directly to your house. VRF systems at this scale are built for commercial buildings, and the announcement is aimed at the contractors and engineers who spec out those projects. If you're considering a heat pump for your own home, this isn't the product line to look at, but it does show that GE Appliances is continuing to expand its heat pump offerings more broadly across both commercial and residential markets.
