50 Years of Driving Pleasure, Now Electric: Volkswagen Launches Pre-Sale of the ID. Polo GTI
This one is not about home upgrades, but worth a quick note for anyone cross-shopping an electric car alongside their energy plans. Volkswagen has opened pre-sales for the ID. Polo GTI, the first fully electric version of its long-running GTI sports car line. It starts at 39,995 euros and uses a 52 kWh battery for a range of up to 431 km (about 268 miles) on the WLTP test cycle, which tends to run higher than US EPA estimates.
The car puts out 166 kW (226 PS) and 290 Nm of torque, hitting 100 km/h in 6.8 seconds with a top speed of 190 km/h. Fast charging tops out at 105 kW, enough to go from 10 to 80 percent in about 24 minutes. It keeps familiar GTI styling cues like the honeycomb front grille, red accents, a roof spoiler, and 19-inch wheels, along with a few retro touches inside, including instrument graphics styled after the original Golf GTI.
For a homeowner thinking about an EV alongside solar panels or a home charger, the practical numbers here are the range, battery size, and charging speed above. This is a European market launch, so pricing and availability elsewhere were not given. If you're weighing an EV purchase as part of a broader home energy upgrade, those figures are the ones to compare against whatever charger setup and solar capacity you're planning.
