4 Major Companies Launch Skilled Trades Training Initiative

July 22, 2026 · ACHR News · Score: 54

Four companies — BlackRock, Carhartt, Ford Motor Co., and Google — have launched the Alliance for America's Skilled Trades, a joint effort to expand training for electricians, technicians, and other skilled trades workers. The group says the U.S. could see 2.1 million unfilled skilled trades positions by 2030, including roles tied to energy and infrastructure work. The founding companies have already backed workforce training programs in 30 states.

The Alliance plans to raise awareness of trades careers, expand apprenticeship and pre-apprenticeship programs that let workers earn pay while learning on the job, and partner with Burning Glass and Jobs for the Future on a report tracking training gaps and progress. It also aims to bring in more labor unions, trade groups, schools, and nonprofits to widen its reach.

For a homeowner, this isn't a program you sign up for or a rebate you can claim. It's a workforce initiative aimed at growing the pool of electricians and other trades workers nationally. Over time, a larger, better-trained workforce could mean more available technicians for jobs like electrical upgrades, insulation, or heat pump installation — work often tied to home energy projects. But the news itself doesn't change any current rebate, program, or deadline you'd need to act on. If your state is among the 30 where training programs are being supported, it may be worth watching for local trades school or apprenticeship options down the road, but no specific details on which states or programs are named here.
